Would anyone know why the handwriting recogniton on my sony ux280 does not
work with One note 2007?

Does handwriting recognition only work on xp tablet pc edition?

it gives me a message occasionally about installing windows desktop search
3.0 is that really necessary for handwriting recognition.

Yes, you need a Tablet PC in order to
use handwriting recognition.

Go to Start > Help and Support and in the Search Help
box type: Handwriting and press the Enter key. Then
click on the various handwriting recognition topics.

thanks i tried the searching option already. Microsoft suggests these
instructions to get it to work on xp but the option they are staing under
office shared features does not exist (see below). Any ideas on getting it to
work with my operating system, maybe a third party hadwriting recogniton
engine.

How to Install Handwriting Recognition if Microsoft Office XP Is Installed
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Change or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office XP, and then
click Change.
3. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
4. In the Features to install list, expand Office Shared Features.
5. Expand Alternative User Input.
6. Click the box to the left of Handwriting, and then click Run from My
Computer.
7. Click Update.
8. When you are prompted, insert the Office XP CD-ROM into your computer's
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, or click Browse to locate the Office XP installation
files, and then click OK.

The handwriting-recognition engine is installed.
