I want to set up my screen saver so that a password is required to
resume operation. For some reason, this computer (Dell Inspiron laptop)
doesn't enable the "On resume, password protect" checkbox, regardless of
what value I select for the wait time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You have to wait a few minutes after the screensaver comes
up before the password protection works. Set the screen
saver for 2 minutes and wait and additional 3-4 minutes
before you try it. It should work.

I don't think that's the problem (screen saver was running all night -
no password prompt this a.m.).

It can't work unless I figure out a way to prevent the "On resume,
password protect" checkbox from being grayed out, which is why I can't
select this option.
