Bob

I have a fresh install of Win XP with all current service
packs and updates on a new IBM clone. This machine has run
great and had no problem installing Win XP home, Win XP
Office, Norton, Quickbooks Pro. Now, a week later, While
trying to install AOL DSL, Adobe 6.0 and Gator Wallet I've
gotten the same error mssg. I either can't load, can't
find, can't initiate because oledlg.dll was not found.
I've tried a path command in the Autoexec and the file
does exist and is fine in the c:\windows\system32\dllcache
directory. No luck. The only thing that works is copying
that file to the root directory of whatever program I'm
trying to install. This works but is not something I want
to explain to my client, and not something I want to show
up for every time she loads a new program. HELP. PLEASE!

Interesting. That file should be in \Windows\System32. If it isn't, copy it
there instead of it being in each program's directory.

Tim thanks for looking at my prob... It IS in the
c:\windows\system32\dllcache that's where I've copied it
from I've put in the c:\windows\system32 and the
c:\windows still I get no love

Bob,

I've not noticed any problems in my system with this file. In case worth
something to help you, this file is in c:\windows\system32 folder. It
is version 5.1.2600.0

For permissions,
administrators have full control,
power users: read and execute, and read
system: full control
users: read and execute, and read

the owner is "adminstrators"

I've check the path (by typing the path command in a command prompt
box), and c:\windows\system32 is in the path.

I noticed you reported you added a path in autoexec. XP doesn't use
autoexec like you probably remember it used in DOS and early windows
version. You can modify the path (which presumably gets stored in the
registry somewhere) via the My Computer, Properties, Tab: Advanced,
Button: environment variables. Check here to see that for your user you
are not changing the path. Or maybe if you move c:\windows\system32 to
the front of the path it will work.

Maybe the problem is not with oledlg.dll, but with the program that is
calling oledlg.dll? Know what that is?

BTW, GATOR WALLET is evil and rotten adware (they are suing
people who call the SPYWARE) so I would not install it.

Thanks Rob... some useful stuff here. I figured I missed
the boat on where the path info was stored. The programs
messing with me are the install on AOL DSL.(but AOL is
always a headache waiting to happen), The download manager
in Adobe Acrobat 6.0(never had a problem with that before)
and Gator's install for Ewallet(this ones new to me). I am
signed on with administrator rights.

My hunch is that Adobe Acrobat has nothing to do with this, nor it's
download manager (although i don't use that ... I use Mozilla's
downloading program and it works well).

AOL does mysterious things to computers. I don't and won't use AOL. Not
religious issue for me -- just don't want to have it.

I have no experience with Gator or Ewallet ... I wouldn't use an Ewallet
app as I don't know enough to trust them. My hunch is that neither are
the root causes

Of the options you provide: check your path, check AOL ... also search
google web and google groups for oledlg.dll adn see of this discussed
elsewhere.
