OLE - Is there a maximum number of excel-files

OLE - Is there a maximum number of excel-files I can embed
into an access database. I'm currently working on a
Corporate Bond database for my master thesis with about 500
Corporate bonds i.e. 500 Excel Files with time series data
and price graphs etc...

Help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Richard,

There isn't a maximum number as such; the practical limit is the maximum
size of an Access .mdb file, which is 2GB in recent versions. Embedding
documents in an OLE field tends to cause the file size to bloat out of
proportion to the actual size of the embedded files, so if your
workbooks are large you could be on course for problems.

In general it's best not to embed documents in OLE fields but to leave
them as disk files and just store their names, locations and other
metadata in the database. But if the point of the workbooks is the time
series data they contain, shouldn't you be storing that in Access
tables?
