old system restor files

I have several old system restor files that are severly
fragmented and neither the windows defragger nor norton
speed disk can do anything with these files. Is there a
way to delete these files?

Start, all programs, accessories, systen tools, disk cleanup, more options
tab, system restore section, clean up.
