Greetings,
I've been using W-95 at home and W2000 at work, and after a 9 month hiatus
away from computers, I'm on a system running Windows XP. I'm seeing
something in XP that I don't remember from the others. Or, rather, not
seeing it. I don't have either of the other two computers available, so I
can't just go check and I need to ask here.
When I open up a folder in Explorer, and click on a file, I have to take
other steps if I want to see the file size (Right-click or go to the File
menu). For some reason I seem to recall having a status bar at the bottom
of my folders in W95 and/or W2000 and that when I highlighted a file, I'd
see file info in the status bar. Nothing much, I only remember filesize,
not path or anything (I have that in both my address bar and my folder
title).
Windows XP came set up so that if I simply moved my cursor over a file, it'd
show a pop-up balloon with file info, which was nice but got in the way too
often, so I disabled it.
In all candor, this is a big case of "I seem to recall" not "I know for sure
it was there." It's just that when I click on a file, my eyes move
automatically down to where I expect to see a status bar, so I'm figuring my
memory isn't too far off.
So... am I just going bonkers, or is there a status-bar capability I'm not
finding?
Bonus question: I keep my address bar in my folders (and on my taskbar)
because it's a GREAT navigation tool. On the taskbar, I can select "Show
Title" or, in my case, DEselect it (I KNOW it's an address bar!). Does
anyone know of a way to get the address bar in IE and Explorer windows to
not show the title?
Windows-XP 5.1 SP2
Classic Windows view (Not the bright, colorful, rounded XP view)
Tweak-UI For XP (Power Toys for Windows XP)
IE 6.0 SP2
Thanks,
Shane
