Old hard disk files

"Hello all, I would appreciate any help on this problem... My old pc died 2
weeks ago, I purchased a new one since. I removed my HD from old pc and set
it up in an external box with USB connection. I was the admin on the old PC,
and on the new one. I have been able to access my old drive and got most of
the files/programs transfered to the new pc, but, I can't access "My
Document" directory, I get an access violation error. The old drive does not
recognize me as the admin even though my old/new login name is the same for
both PC's. The old drive used XP home edition and so does my new PC. I could
not find anywhere in XP where I can change the secuity on the old drive to be
able to access all files and folders. Any help will be greately appreciated.

Hi

This should fix it most likely:

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

(note the Safe Mode/Administrator requirement for WinXP Home to
access the Security tab).

When I restarted with safe mode, my external drive did not appear on the
desktop list of drives, only my C drive was available. Typically my external
drive shows up as K drive. Thanks

Torgeir, thanks for the help, I got it working, now I can see all my files.
What I ended up doing is changing the connection on the external drive from
1394 to USB, this made the disk available in safe mode.... really weird.
Thanks again
