Old gameport on a new computer

Hi all.

I've recently upgraded to a brand new computer. It has no gameport on
it, so I removed my sounscard from the old machine and installed it
there, just for the gameport. The soundcard itself works fine
(although there's an onboard sound), but the gameport doesn't. That
is, windows recognized it and installed the drivers, but the joystick
is listed as 'not connected', although it is.

I don't think it's an XP problem, as things don't work on DOS too - I
couldn't even run the old DOS drivers. They keep searching the card at
220H or so, while it is on d000H (in windows, at least).

It's a Creative Sound Blaster, and worked just fine on the older
machine (also runnig XP).

Thanks for any help.

Do you need to disable plug and play in the BIOS for the joystick to work
in DOS?

To get it to work in DOS select non PnP OS (or something similar) in the BIOS.

In WinXP my ISA AWE64 sound card address is 0220 and the game port is 0200.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

I didn't find anything like that in the BIOS. Can it have a funny
name? there're some things I don't undestand - EIST, "XT Technology"
and such, but none of them seems to be related to PnP.

This card used to be at 200H in the old machine, too.

I've got an Intel PearlCreek DG31PR motherboard, if it helps. Running
WinXP professional (or DOS, as mentioned).

Thanks a lot, again.

With two of my PCs I have to set "PnP OS" to NO to enable the BIOS PnP to detect the sound card for DOS. My other PC, a Gateway Celeron, does not have any similar option, but the sound card and game port are detected in DOS.
