Old e-mails go missing

Hi Guys

I keep loosing old e-mails. I store them in folders on the left of Outlook.
I usually drag them into their respective folders such e-mails from Bill go
into Bills folder and the ones from Mary go into hers etc. Sometimes I
create rules so they automatically go into their respective folders. But
after some time they disappear. Generally its no big deal unless I want to
refresh my memory of what someone has said say 12 months ago but when I take
a look inside the folder they have disappeared, yet I am sure they were
there a few weeks earlier. Its like as if Outlook is deleting e-mails over a
certain age. I store my profile on a second drive and I archive Outlook to
that drive as well.

I am using Office 2003 with all the latest updates on an XP machine with all
the latest service packs and auto updates. I use AVG anti virus (cos it
free) and it updates automatically too.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks

Edd

If you are "archiving" your messages, Outlook is copying messages older than
a specified number of days to a separate "archive" file. Once the messages
have been copied to that file, they are deleted from your primary file.

You can view the contents of your archive file by selecting "File, Open,
Outlook Data File..." from the menus. The archive file should contain a tree
of folders similar to the folders in your primary file, and it sounds like
all your older messages will be there.

Thanks for this but I have checked the archive folder and all my folders are
there but they are empty too.
Very strange?
