old ATI RAGE LT PRO 8mb w/ TV-Out

Hello,

I recently purchased the above mentioned second hand graphics card w/
tv-out.
the tv-output connector at the back of the card seemed to be a S-video
output. Accordingly, i went to the electronics shop, to get:
- a Svideo-2-Composite converter (cause my TV doesn't have a S-video input,
it only has RCA inputs),
- a svideo cable, to connect the card to the converter,
- a rca cable to connect the converter, and thus the computer, to my TV.

I realized, when trying to connect the cable to my new card, that the
connector isn't S-Video!!!! it's shaped like a S-Video (it's round with
pin-holes in it) but has got 6 pin-holes, and the S-video cable has got 4
pins.
There didn't seem to be any alternate cable/converter with a round-shaped
video connector at the electronic supply shop. it only had stuff with
4-pinned connectors.

Can anyone tell me what weird video output connector format this is? Some
sort of old-fashioned s-video output? or some sort of foreign video output
(i live in north america --> NTSC)? can i solve my problem, or is the card
just obsolete and garbage?

thanks

Does the S-video wire fit in there? The extra holes may be for plastic
knobs on some S-video cables so they are oriented correctly.

no, that's not it. this page shows a Rage 128 witrh 32mb SDRAM, wheras i
have 8mb of god-knows-which-RAM.

Look for others on this page:

For some info on "odd ball" s-video connectors see:

http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/svideo2cvideo.html

S-video connectors only use four pins. The conversion to/from composite
video is pretty simple. Can you trace the pins on your card to see if all
are active? Getting a connector may be a problem, but you might be able to
solder the appropriate connectors of a standard s-video cable to the card's
pc board.

Good luck!

It's an ATI specialty cable. I don't have the pinout handy, but I believe
that there is audio out (or video in?) on the extra wires.

ATI may still sell the cable and a search online should turn up a pinout.
You may get away with using a standard SVideo cable anyhow, as long as it
plugs in.

I recently saw a schematic for the wiring from the Sub-D15 VGA male plug to
a mini-DIN 7-pin socket and an additional composite video DCA/Cinch socket
of a Matrox G400. The connector's coding pin area is below the 4pin low row.

The composite signal on the G400 Sub-D15 VGA connector is located at pin 4
and Cgnd is pin 5
The RGB signals are from the G400
Sub-D15 VGA connector mini-DIN 7pin socket (front view)
R(1)/Rgnd(6) --> R(3)/2 top row right/low row left
G(2)/Ggnd(7) --> G(4)/1 top row left/low row right
B(3)/Bgnd(8) --> B(5)/1 low row middle right/low row right
RGB-En(13)/Gnd(10) --> En(6)/2 low row middle left/low row left
(12) and (15) are connected (7) N.C. top row middle
