OL2007 .pst on two computers -- tracking downloaded messages

J

jayhill

Until recently, I've been sharing an OL2000 .pst between two computers
successfully while keeping 14 days' messages on the server, so that I
can use webmail when away from both of my computers.

I've upgraded to OL2007 now, and am attempting to do the same thing,
but I find that OL is tracking already-downloaded messages by machine,
rather than by .pst. The result, of course, is that I get every
message twice -- first on one machine, then on the other when I move
the .pst back over.

I have tried moving over many combinations of settings files, etc., to
no avail. I have tried creating a new 2007 .pst from scratch and
importing items from my old one. I have tried creating a new
2007 .pst from scratch and just copying over items from my old one,
folder by folder.

No luck.

Can anybody offer any guidance as to what has changed, if anything,
and how I might get the functionality for which I am looking?

Thank you!

Hi jayhill,

network PST files are unsupported by Microsoft.

You can try to use an "IMAP" account to share your emails or maybe you will
get further information on this sites:

That's been the case nearly forever. The mail profile in the registry
tracks that data, not the PST.

Nothing has changed and you cannot get the functionality you're seeking
because it never existed. I've checked back through multiple versions of
Outlook.
