OL2003 - Change "Display As" in Personal Contacts (Globally?)

When I address a message from my contacts list in OL2003 (imported from
OL2000) - external contacts email addresses are immediately viewable.
This can be remedied by changing the "display as" form within the
contact. However, I have 800+ contacts and wondered if there was an
easy way to make these changes for all of them (a global change?) or
will I have to go into each one individually and edit the "display as"
properties?

Either that or see if anyone has written code to do it. I doubt anyone has
because there is so little need to do this.
Just curious. Why do you need to do this? The Display Name is of no
consequence.

The objective was to be able to type an address in either the "to",
"cc", or "bcc" field and only have the display name show, without the
email address. Example:

Want this: "John Q Public"
Not this: "John Q Public <[email protected]>

I understand that, but I wonder why it matters. You aren't actually hiding
the email address.
Just curious as to what you're trying to accomplish.

Russ,

Although I wrote the original article in the first person, the question
is from a friend. When you say the email is not hidden - what you are
saying is that it can be gleaned by clicking on the person's name in
any of the address lines which will then, in turn, reveal the email. I
had already told my friend this - despite knowing this, he still wants
to change how the addressee is viewed in the address lines - frankly,
your preaching to the choir.

I understand that, but I wonder why it matters. You aren't actually hiding
the email address.
Just curious as to what you're trying to accomplish.

Well I wasn't preaching. But there is no such option, largely because there
is no need for one.

Thanks Russ - I really didn't think there was, but wanted to get a
second opinion - appreciate it!
