OL2002 and POP server issues

I get this:
"Task 'pop.mail.yahoo.com - Sending and Receiving'
reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out
waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If
you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'"
When trying to send/receive via my pop server (Yahoo)... I
can ping and tracert successfully. I can also send/receive
successfully on a different pc running W2K pro but not on
my XP machine... fun huh?

Yahoo! and Dell both claim innocence... my ISP assures me
there are no settings on their side that would inhibit the
use of these servers. I've even tried using the domain
names found at the end of the tracert as the POP3 and SMTP
servers... same issue each time.

I've tried on the same PC from two different network
connections (home/work)... both are DSL. The home network
is running off a wireless router (settings there are
correct too... obviously if I can ping and tracert...).

WTF? Any ideas out there?

Are you using their premium service? Access to their POP3 mail accounts is
now reserved for paid service.

Due to the Swen virus, all e-mails sent to this account will be deleted
w/out reading.

Supposedly the service packs fix the problem but have never found that to
work.

I have gotten the same error on so many different computers, all installed
by different vendors and myself, all using different DSL and ISP's, that I
just switch them all back to Office2000. The problem immediately goes away.

If you go to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 827349 you
might find a solution. Hope this helps.
