OL 2003 - 2 Sets of Personal Folder Groups Have Become 6 Groups

WXP SP2 & Office 2003 SP2?
Using the new Add-In for Backing Up Pers Folders in OL 2003, I have somehow
created a mess under All Mail Folders, of THREE sets of Personal Folders,
being
Deleteted Items,
Drafts,
Inbox,
Junk E-Mail, Outbox, Sent Items, Search Folders AND too three sets of my own
Personal Folders, approx a dozen in each Group.
I'm leery of deleting at least my own created Personal Folders for fear the
move will delete not one but ALL the duplicates and the original, leaving me
with no folder at all.
All the dupes are an exact replica of the original folders.
I've tried to delete the title "Personal Folders" hoping I could delete a
section at a time but find there's no way of doing so neither by the Right
Click Menu nor under Edit as the Delete function is dimmed out.

I've got Backups being Outlook.pst, Personal Folders (1).pst and Personal
Folders (2).pst. If absolutely neceesary I could Remove OL in Add/Remove,
and Restore my Data but, I will lose some data. Also does Office 2003 give u
that opportunity to remove just OL or do u have to remove the whole Office
2003 Program?

Sure hope someone is able to advise me. If this isn't the right place to
post this query would u pls direct me to where it should be posted. Thx

.... As I haven't recvd any replies, I'm assuming I've created a Personal
Folders duplicating mess that can't be corrected. As such would someone pls
tell me, if I click on Remove in Add Remove, for Office 2003, will I be given
the choice to delete just Outlook alone or will I have to delete all of
Office?
Thinking, I'll lose all my data in OL as if I use my BKU then I'll likely
create this mess again.

Not really. It just means no one saw your post.
Duplicate Personal Folders mean you have a corrupt profile.
Just create a new one and use the correct method for connecting your Outlook
Data File:
- Go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files > Add...
- Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close > OK to exit the
Options dialog
- Go to Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
- Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e-mail to the following
location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current
default Personal Folders file) > Finish
- Exit and Restart Outlook
- You can now close the previous default PST (R-click on that pst folder
while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername> Folders"). If you have
any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your new
default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you close
the old one.

Russ, Thx SM for replying!
Tell me pls. The PST file in Office OL2003 Not a Business just for
ordinary email use ...
Am I just supposed to have ONE data file being ... Outlook.PST?

Presently I have three:
Outlook.pst 25,809 KB
Personal Folders(1).pst 4,481 KB
Personal folders (2).pst 21,841 KB

Is Outlook.pst supposed to contain EVERYTHING?
What I mean is, I have and want to have two sets of Personal Folders, each
one different - in the View Panel on the left. -
One for Business emails and
One for Personal emails.

I thought I had these two Personal folders (1) & (2).pst because I had one
for Business & one for Personal emails.
Is that assumption wrong? Should both of these Personal Folders be in the
Outlook.pst file?

If I should have ONLY Outlook.pst
then I'll make a new Outlook.pst and not make these two other Personal
Folders (1) & (2).pst.
I'm now thinking that I have these two Pers Folders through an error when
using this new BKU tool.
I've never looked in Miscrosoft\Outlook before to see what was there, one
PST data file, two or three originally.

Using BKU from early yesterday (I copied and Pasted into MS\Outlook in
WExplorer) I'm now down to just one extra Personal Folders in View Menu under
All Mail Folders. ... too bad one couldn't just Delete that one group of
Personal Folders.

I don't have too much confidence in performing your instructions correctly
but Thx I'll give it a try.
Geez I hope u can understand this babble.

Well it's hard to know how you arrived at this situation, but since these
PST files are not mirrors of each other, your profile may be fine and you
may not have any repairs to make.
So tell us how you ended up with three PST files. Normally, one uses only
one PST file then creates as many folders as they need within that file to
organize their data. If I were you I would just move all information you
want into the main PST file (Outlook.pst) then just R click and close the
other two.

I don't know if this is what u meant, but this is what I did.
I changed all the folders in Properties to read "Show nbr of items" so I
could tell if when deleting the email was being deleted out of the other
duplicate folders too.

In OL View I delected the emails from the extra Personal Folders (this
didn't affect the others). Perect results. I then moved my Personal Folder
- Business up into the Personall Folder - Personal thinking that then all the
folders would be in Outlook.pst. (When I had moved the one Pers Folders
(1).pst into the Recycle bin that group of folders disappeared in OL View
Pane) so I Restored the pst file and moved the Personal folders.

That complete I then had:
3 sets of the top Personal folders under which were:
Delected Items, Drafts, Inbox, Sent Items, etc ... all three were exactly
the same so ... I deleted the emails from the two dupes, Then, Right clicked
on the titles and they disappeared.
I'm left with one set under Favourite Folders and one set under All Main
Folders.
One Set of Personal Folders - Business and one set Personal folders -
Personal.
The Personal isn't looking too good because u can't 'move" it but it is in
there with the Business and that's ok.
Great Work to that stage.
Then the ph rang, some else was taking to me and in the process, I Right
clicked
on my one remaining Personal Folder - Business containing my Personal
emails too and it dissappeared!!!! I can't find it! It's GONE!!! 24 hrs
work disappeared in a flash with one careless move.

In MS\Outlook my PST files look like this now:
Outlook.pst .....................27,793 KB
Personal Folders (1).pst .... 4,481 KB
Personal Folders (2).pst ..... 1,009 KB

I'm not at all sure but I think that Outlook.pst file was up to approx
35,000 KB but with my Personal Folders all deleted, which I think they are,
it's now 27,793 KB.

Well Russ, LOL Are they gone forever or is there a way to retrieve them?
Would they still be on my HD? I looked while in the midst of my heart
attack so not carefully. I've only had this HD installed for a couple weeks
so all the business on it is current. I can't believe this. I'm usually so
careful but this time I let myself be totally distracted.

BTW When u said to "Move" all the information I wanted in the PST file, what
did u mean me to do ... Not do this somehow in WExplorer did u? I looked but
couldn't find a way to combine those PST files so I moved the information in
OL, View Pane. I hope at least THAT was correct but not much good it's doing
me now. It looked so good Russ, I was so pleased with myself. Then I
screwed it all up royally. ... Edna

I can't follow what you did.
If you moved information into your Deleted Items Folder then deleted it from
there, it is gone.
You can't delete an entire PST file from Outlook. You can only close it. It
would remain on your hard drive. Search for *.pst. Make sure you've enabled
search and display of hidden files.
To move data from one PST file to another in Outlook, just select all the
data in a folder > Edit > Copy to Folder..., and select a target folder in
another PST file.

My Post had so many typing errors it's no wonder u couldn't follow it. Also
when u referred to PST files I thought u meant in WExplorer MS\Oiutlook not
the Personal Folders in OL Mail so I had difficulty too.
Nevertheless, I tried, many times, your method of bringing Outlook.pst plus
my 2 Personal Folders.pst back into OL Mail, but my sub folders didn't
appear. I ended up Restoring a nbr of BKUs I had kept and eventually I got
all my individual sub folders of Personal Folders, back.
I now have ONE Personal Folder with all my sub folders, under OL MAIL and
ONE Outlook.PST file without any Persoanl Folders (1) or (2).pst in
wExplorer.

Lookin' Good Russ and Thank You ever so much for your patience. I know it
was a toughie to coop with but u hung in like a Pro!!!

BTW When u said to "Move" all the information I wanted in the PST file,
what
did u mean me to do ... Not do this somehow in WExplorer did u? I looked
but
couldn't find a way to combine those PST files so I moved the information
in
OL, View Pane. I hope at least THAT was correct but not much good it's
doing
me now. It looked so good Russ, I was so pleased with myself. Then I
screwed it all up royally. ... Edna

Well it's hard to know how you arrived at this situation, but since these
PST files are not mirrors of each other, your profile may be fine and you
may not have any repairs to make.
So tell us how you ended up with three PST files. Normally, one uses only
one PST file then creates as many folders as they need within that file
to
organize their data. If I were you I would just move all information you
want into the main PST file (Outlook.pst) then just R click and close the
other two.

Russ, Thx SM for replying!
Tell me pls. The PST file in Office OL2003 Not a Business just for
ordinary email use ...
Am I just supposed to have ONE data file being ... Outlook.PST?

Presently I have three:
Outlook.pst 25,809 KB
Personal Folders(1).pst 4,481 KB
Personal folders (2).pst 21,841 KB

Is Outlook.pst supposed to contain EVERYTHING?
What I mean is, I have and want to have two sets of Personal Folders,
each
one different - in the View Panel on the left. -
One for Business emails and
One for Personal emails.

I thought I had these two Personal folders (1) & (2).pst because I had
one
for Business & one for Personal emails.
Is that assumption wrong? Should both of these Personal Folders be in
the
Outlook.pst file?

If I should have ONLY Outlook.pst
then I'll make a new Outlook.pst and not make these two other Personal
Folders (1) & (2).pst.
I'm now thinking that I have these two Pers Folders through an error
when
using this new BKU tool.
I've never looked in Miscrosoft\Outlook before to see what was there,
one
PST data file, two or three originally.

Using BKU from early yesterday (I copied and Pasted into MS\Outlook in
WExplorer) I'm now down to just one extra Personal Folders in View Menu
under
All Mail Folders. ... too bad one couldn't just Delete that one group
of
Personal Folders.

I don't have too much confidence in performing your instructions
correctly
but Thx I'll give it a try.
Geez I hope u can understand this babble.

:

Not really. It just means no one saw your post.
Duplicate Personal Folders mean you have a corrupt profile.
Just create a new one and use the correct method for connecting your
Outlook
Data File:
- Go to Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Data Files > Add...
- Add the PST you'd like as your new default, then Close > OK to exit
the
Options dialog
- Go to Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail
accounts
- Select the PST you just added in the "Deliver New e-mail to the
following
location" dropdown (it will most likely appear just below the current
default Personal Folders file) > Finish
- Exit and Restart Outlook
- You can now close the previous default PST (R-click on that pst
folder
while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername> Folders"). If you
have
any information in your former PST that you'd like to transfer to your
new
default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the other before you
close
the old one.

WXP SP2 & Office 2003 SP2?
Using the new Add-In for Backing Up Pers Folders in OL 2003, I have
somehow
created a mess under All Mail Folders, of THREE sets of Personal
Folders,
being
Deleteted Items,
Drafts,
Inbox,
Junk E-Mail, Outbox, Sent Items, Search Folders AND too three sets
of
my
own
Personal Folders, approx a dozen in each Group.
I'm leery of deleting at least my own created Personal Folders for
fear
the
move will delete not one but ALL the duplicates and the original,
leaving
me
with no folder at all.
All the dupes are an exact replica of the original folders.
I've tried to delete the title "Personal Folders" hoping I could
delete
a
section at a time but find there's no way of doing so neither by the
Right
Click Menu nor under Edit as the Delete function is dimmed out.

I've got Backups being Outlook.pst, Personal Folders (1).pst and
Personal
Folders (2).pst. If absolutely neceesary I could Remove OL in
Add/Remove,
and Restore my Data but, I will lose some data. Also does Office
2003
give u
that opportunity to remove just OL or do u have to remove the whole
Office
2003 Program?

Sure hope someone is able to advise me. If this isn't the right
place
to
post this query would u pls direct me to where it should be posted.
Thx
