OL 2000 quits but still in Task Manager

Hi,

I used as the "subject" the same subject that was used in a post in this
newsgroup, of 5/20/03 (4:28 PM) by "pmeleedy" which was answered by Pete
Lambert on 5/21/03 at 7:51 AM. I have the same problem (Am running XP Home
on a Pentium 4 Dell desktop, running Windows kernel in RAM, have OL 2000,
freestanding, and Office XP suite (except for Outlook). Unfortunately, when
I tried to read Pete's response to "pmeleedy," the response was "Message is
no longer available on the server."

If anybody can give me some insights into this situation, I would appreciate
it.

FWIW, I found a utility (through a link on Sue Mosher's Slipstick website
(fantastic resource), called "Knockout" which puts an icon in the system
tray (now called the "notification area", I think) when OL is running, even
if there's no evidence that OL is running by virtue of either any open OL
windows or an outlook button appearing on the taskbar. Knockout sounds like
a good workaround to my problem but I still would like to try to find more
information about why this problem occurs in the first place. If OL 2002 is
not open "visually," then it can't be healthy to having it run "behind the
scenes" as evidenced by its appearing in the Task Manager list. Ray

This is actually quite common when a program, such as a synchronization tool
or fax utility, accesses Outlook data without displaying any Outlook user
interface.
