OK to paste from Word docs?

Hi Ronx,

I use Word 2000. No photos and no html in Word. Just text, tables, and
lists. The tables and lists may require reformatting in FP to get the effect
you want, but they transfer okay. As far as bloated code goes, you can check
out my site: www.dipika.org. All the articles are Word files that were
directly dragged in from Windows Explorer. It's a great timesaver. You get
the best of both worlds.

I did check your site, which prompted my question. I have always had bloat
with .doc files saved from Word 2000, regardless of content and method of
inserting into FP. The only cure has been saving as HTML from Word, and
using the MSO filter.

Did you find bloated code on my site?

Wally,

No, I didn't see any bloated coding.

Regarding the database, this totally depends on the OS your site is hosted
under and the server-side scripting language support by your host.

In general the following:

Unix/Linux -
MySQL and Perl or PHP

Windows -
Access or MS SQL and ASP or ASP.Net

I am still following the thread.

I just conducted an experiment using Word 2003, FP2000, and FP2003.

Saved a word file, consisting of Headings, paragraphs, and a numbered list
in three formats: Word(97-2003).doc, Word RTF format, and unfiltered HTML.

With a blank page open in FP2003, from Windows explorer, dragged
the 2 word formats into the page: result: RTF format - perfect - no changes
required at all.
..doc format: work required on the list, no bloat at all.

Repeated with FP2000 - on a different PC -
Result: RTF format - perfect, as for FP2003
..doc format: HTML code obscured with XML, mso classes and styles - similar
to the HTML unfiltered (but a little less of it).

The problem with bloat seems to be with FP2000, or my installations of it.

I have never had a problem with Word files saved from Word 97 or earlier
with any version of FP. Since using FP2000 with Word 2000, I have never
tried dragging Word files into pages until these last 2 days.

That's why I recommend the RTF method per

Second attempt.
-----
Wally

Hi Ron,

I'm using Word 2000 with FP 2000. I also did it with Word 98 and FP 98. I
sometimes get something about mso in the head section of the page, but
nothing to worry about. FP 98 would first convert the .doc file to .rtf, but
I don't know whether FP 2000 does that.

I can't figure out what I am doing that is different from what you are
doing. I put all the .doc files that I am going to be working with into one
folder. There is a button that opens up that folder on my Windows toolbar. I
open up my page in FP, press the toolbar button, and the folder opens up as
a little window. Then I drag the .doc file from the little window to where I
want it on the page.

Does this help?

Wally

We seem to be using the same method of inserting the files. I've tried with
several other Word files, including some saved with Word 2000: with FP2003 I
get nothing added to the <head> section and no bloat whatever; With FP2000,
lots of bloat - but then I do not use FP2000 for projects anymore. The RTF
versions seem to OK, as Stefan said.

Hi Ron,

Then it seems you have worked around the problem, whatever it was? I would
be curious to know what caused it though.

Wally
