Ok Solve this one

I have a DI-704P router on a DSL line that I can not
use "ask for remote assistance" using MSN or windows
Messenger or the e-mail method. The network works fine
and all computers can get to the internet. All computer
settings are set and works behind the router on the
network. The router and three of the computers worked at
my location with this router, but on a cable modem. MSN,
E-mail and the internet works on all computers on the
network. MTU is set to 1492. The router is set for remote
Admistration with my IP that does not change, but that
will not work either. The DSL Modem is a Westell
Wirespeed B90-36R51601.
Oh one other thing they can not get to my router or
remote assistance to my computer when everyone else can.
Basicaly no in or out.

Set your firewall/router to allow connections through port
3389 (remote assistance).

You should be able to set it to only allow certain IP
addresses through for security purposes

Thamks Chris, but that has been set from the start. I use
remote assistance all of the time and even replaced thier
router with the one that I have used here. The only
differance is that I use Cable and I switched the router
to PPoP for DSL. All of the port settings remained and
have even been redone. I have ran gpedit.msc on those
computers plus confirmed that remote was allowed on all
computers.

By any chance is there anything weird going on in the
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file?

Is TCP/IP set to "Obtain DNS server address automatically"?

Please forgive if these queries are deemed lame by you.

Yes to the DNS Server

I'm not sure about the host file settings
I'm not sure what you mean or even what that is

A generic hosts file in Windows XP is only 1kb in size.

It should be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

If you open it with notepad it should look like this:

********************************************************

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

**********************************************************

I was just wandering if somehow some IP Addresses related to the
Remote Assistance got put into your HOST file and might be causing the issue.
Probably not.

What about Internet Options | Security tab or Privacy tab ?
Any possible entries in there that could be a blocking issue?

Or maybe Internet Options | Connections tab | LAN settings ?
