Offline store file

I'm deploying Office 2003 via Group Policy using a MST file created using the
Custom Installation Wizard. In the Exchange Settings (page 18), I specify
the exchange settings, with %username% for the username. I also then go into
More Settings and tick Enable Offline Use and set the path & filename of the
offline store to %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost and the directory for the offline address
book files to %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

When the software is deployed, it doesn't seem to translate the
%USERPROFILE% variable properly, causing Outlook to fail when loaded. I have
to manually go into Mail in the Control Panel and set the locations by hand.
Is there any reason why it is not working with %USERPROFILE%? Thanks.

%USERPROFILE% should work. Can you determine what location Outlook is using
instead of the correct path?

When I go into Mail under Control Panel to verify the location of the offline
file, it's exactly as it is entered when creating the MST (ie.
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost).
It doesn't seem to be correctly translating the %USERPROFILE% variable for
some reason.

That's not good. Can you extract the .prf file (export it from the last
screen of profile configuration) and post it in the body of your next
message? Don't include the mapping sections, which are always the same.

If I apply the extracted PRF file by hand, it seems to fix the problem and
OUtlook loads properly.

So, maybe the .prf file wasn't getting installed at all by the .mst? I'd
check the MST File Viewer to make sure the .prf file is there along with the
ImportPRF registry entry.
