offline folders and the ability to see them when I'm ONLINE

Hi All,
I recently joined a new company and I'm using my personal
laptop running Windows XP pro.
My computer is part of the domain and my username is a
local username (as opposed to username at the domain).
When I'm at work, I can see the network with its servers,
shares, printers etc.
In order to be able to work at home - I turned some of
the shares into "Offline folders" so I could modify files
and synchronize them either through my VPN or when I'm
back at the office.

THE PROBLEM IS - when I turn some folders on a share to
be offline, I can see those files and ONLY these files
even when i'm connected to the network using VPN or when
I'm attached physically to the office network. It looks
like I'm staying in "offline" mode even though the
network is available again.
Once I turn the offline-folders option off on my
computer, and I choose to see the shares, I then get the
Username/password authentication window and I can see all
the folders once again.
What am I doing wrong using the offline-folders?

I'll appreciate any help and tip on this!

Thanks,
Gil.
