"My Documents" are kept at the server level and the file synchronization is
set to run upon log on and log off, however when the laptop is disconnected
the offline files disappear. (XP Pro )

I have contacted the manufacturer who say its a Microsoft problem, has
anyone else experienced this condition and any ideas how to resolve this
issue?

John -

I feel your pain.

While the laptop is connected to the network, using the laptop's Windows
Explorer you have to right-click the files or folders you want to stay there
and select "Make Available Offline." There doesn't seem to be a way to have
all the files and folders below the level of the share automatically copied
to the laptop. (It does work the other way -- new stuff on the laptop does
get transferred automatically to the network drive.)

I guess this is so potentially huge files don't get automatically copied to
the laptop - you have to specify the ones you want. But since my laptop
drive is twice as big as my desktop data drive, I too would like a way to
have whatever I do at EITHER end be automatically and completely copied to
the other.

If I find a way to do this, I'll get back to ya.
