Officejet 7210--How to Scan

I am trying to scan a document--my ultimate goal is to use an OCR program
somewhere for editing documents--but my scanner says I need to run device
software....I apparently can't even scan right now....Am I not doing
something right? I am not aware of any software I might have purchased or
received with my Officejet 7210 when I bought it....I thought it was already
preconfigured to scan...thanks for you input....Skarecrow

Did you install the entire suite of software that came with the OfficeJet?
Do you still have the CD(s)? Find them....or see what you can download from
HP.

But he says he is not aware of any software he might have received with his
printer. How on earth he is managing to make the printer anything at all
without the software beats me. I have two HP All-In-One
printer/scanner/copiers. (Not the same model as his). They have about 1 GB of
driver software on the CDs that come with the machine in the box. He should
look for them, or try to obtain versions of them from HP.

The circumstances in which he is unable to recall seeing software when
purchasing is strange. He does not say whether he has attempted to perform
any other task and if so with what result. Nothing should work without proper
installation of the software.

Install the device drivers from the CD that came with the OfficeJet
when it was purchased.

Which is why I asked him to find them. :)

I see you concur with me. :)

Yeah - I don't think XP has native drivers for that device....but I've never
tried to install anything like that without the CDs, either.
