I dont know if the OS is genuine. I would like a newer version, with a trial
version if possible. Though I have tried to download this from the website, I
have been unsuccessful.

I purchased, new, with the computer Microsoft Office & Bookshelf designed
for Windows 95. Though I have used the office programs with success, I would
very much to upgrade. I tried to go online on the website to download this
free sixty day trial version, with NO success!

Please help me to resolve these issues. I appreciate any response that you
can provide.

To check for genuine Windows go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx.
Use the "Validate Windows" button on the upper right of the page.

Once you determine that your Windows is genuine or take the step necessary
to make it genuine you can upgrade XP to the latest version, which is SP2.

To upgrade to XP SP2 turn on Automatic Updates. You will have a number of
downloads before SP2 is offered, some of which involve updating Windows
Update itself.

You will need to update the system before you can use a trial version of
Office. Once the system is updated you can download the Office trial from:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/FX101732751033.aspx?ofcresset=1
