Office XP (Word 2002) Fromatting Compatability

K

Kath Handley

I am sending a document created on Word 2000 to another
person who is using Office XP. My document uses styles
(based on no style)but when the recipient opens the
document none of the styles are recognised and all
formatting is lost.

I have sent the person the template that the document is
based on, and also tried sending it after having attached
it to my 'normal' template.

I've also asked her to tick 'Automatically Update Document
Styles' in Templates and Add-Ins.

All to no avail. Please has anyone got any ideas as I am
at a loss now as to what to do!

What you *don't* want is "Automatically update document styles." Provided
this is not enabled, the styles are cut off from the template the instant
the document is created, so they should remain intact regardless of whether
or not your recipient has the attached template. Something else is going on
here; either the document is being corrupted in transmission (as sometimes
happens to attachments if they're not zipped), or your recipient is opening
it using the "Recover Text" setting, or there is some other explanation.
