Speech recogntion (dictation & voice commands) work in PowerPoint. In Word,
only voice commands work, not dictation...why?

Hi Eddy,

In Word do you have the Tools=>Speech settings
turned on that show dictation is active when you're
in a Word document?

Is the cursor in the document for typing?

Is the language for the current style set to U.S. English?

Thank you Bob...

In Word, Speech is on, the microphone is on, the language is in dictation
mode.

The curser is in the document field.

The language is US English.

Again, dictation and voice command work well in PowerPoint. In Word, voice
command and text to speech work...dictation recognizes things like right
justify, left justify, bold...but no words.

Hi Eddy,

The text-to-speech function is normally an Excel
feature. There could be an add-in in Word interfering.
See if starting Word in Office safe mode (hold ctrl key
while starting Word) makes a difference, but before
that delete all files found using Start=>Search/Find
with a name search string of
~$*.*;*.doc

Thanks again Bob...no that did not work. Excel and Word have the same
problem and PowerPoint speech (dictation, voice commands and text to speech)
works well.

One more thing....

With Word and Excel, Taxt to Speech and Voice Command works well. When you
say "dictation" the dialog box in the Language Bar says "What is that?" When
you click on Dictation, commands like new paragraph, left justify, bold
work...

Hi Eddy,

You may want to run a repair from the Word help
menu at this point and be sure that the settings for the normal
style in Word are set to U.S. English after that
in a new blank document in Office safe mode right
after that.

Thanks again Bob:

I ran repair from the Help menu. I opened Word in Save mode and a new
document...same result, Voice Commands work, dictation does not.

PowerPoint still working well.
