Memory & Speech Recognition

Just how much memory is needed for speech recognition to work? Many of these entries mention how 'slow' Word becomes. I assume everything on my PC is setup correctly as I dictated for about 15 minutes before Word locked up. Now only Voice Command works. I select the Dictation button but the only thing that happens is the Dictation button has a square around it. The message balloon retains whatever was left from Voice command.

It needs a lot. I saw the behavior you describe when beta-testing Office 2002, and I had 512 MB RAM at the time.
