Office Word 2003 - Copy and paste a file to Word as an icon

My co-worker and I are both using Word 2003.
He is able to simply copy a file from desktop (just right click on the icon
and copy)
Then paste the file to a Word document and it shows in the document as an
icon.
When double click on that icon, it will open the file that he copied. (PDF,
XLS...etc)
I try to do the samething, instead of create the icon, Word try to open the
file that I selected and copied.
What can I do to have the same "trick" he has?
I asked him and he said he did not do any change in Word.

Hello,
Don't know why your co-worker can simply paste the icon into his document;
however, you can do it by copying the icon, then in your Word document,
select Edit... Paste Special.... In the Paste Special dialog box, make sure
to select the Display as icon check box and click OK.
Hope this helps.

I think it is the way you are putting documents onto your desktop. You should
right click the document and select send to - then desktop, or copy and paste
SHORTCUT. It sounds like what you're doing is copying the document and
pasting it to the desktop - It needs to be a shortcut in order to work the
way your co-worker's does.
