Office update corrupted word 2002 - HELP

I am using Office 2002 SP2 and did the office update and
downloaded and installed the updates. Now, when you create
a word document and save it. If you click on it, it just
flashes and wont open. If I open up word first and point
to it, it opens. Any ideas on what is going on ?

files. Word files do not open in the desired version of Word when you
double-click them in Windows Explorer, or when opening them from the Desktop
or Explorer, a series of messages appear claiming that the file cannot be
