Office and Activation Troubles

Chris

I had to run a repair installation of Windows XP a few
months ago, and afterwards Microsoft Office told me my
Windows wasn't activated. I tried to Activate it, but it
told me it had already been activated on another machine.

I decided to wait it out and see if nothing happened once
I reached my limits of use, and it has reached Reduced
Functionality Mode. I tried to run Activation via the
Run command in Start menu, but it merely told me that my
copy of Windows on this computer has already been
activated. I tried reinstalling (as a repair) my copy of
Office and it is still in reduced functionality mode.

When I tried calling Microsoft, I couldn't figure out
where I wanted to Navigate myself with the robotic voice,
and thus couldn't really get my help.

So I wanted to know if there is anything I can do to
solve this?

You'll have to phone in to activate Office.
You should consider creating a System Image of your PC.
If your hardware configuration stays constant, having an
image can help avoid Repair Installs & Activations.
There are a number of choices for Imaging. Ghost, Drive
Image, BootIT-NG (Image for DOS) True Image, etc.
This advice might not help with your current problem, but
long-term you can avoid this type of issue.

Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling Office?

Office will not care if the OS is activated. Office will care if Office
is activated. What version of office are you running?

I tried to Activate it,

Windows or Office?

but it
told me it had already been activated on another machine.

I'm not sure, but I think you may have some confusion on which software
needs activation, so the first thing for you to do is to find out
exactly what needs activation and post back with that info. Good luck.

Office would not be talking of *Windows* activation, but of *Office*
Activation. For that, run Word, bypass the 'activate right now' dialog
and go to Help - About Word. Note down the Product ID number there,
then go to its Help - Activate Product , using that number if it asks
for one

Chris,
I'm wondering if these other posts were helpful. I ask because I think my
situation is nearly identical to yours as you described it--with Windows XP
as the problem. In my case, "reduced functionality mode" keeps me from being
able to use the computer at all, just shutting itself down when it registers
that the Operating System has not been activated for the computer it's on.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You are confusing Activation of Windows with Activation of Office. To
activate Office you run Word, and check the Product ID *for that* as
given in its Help - About Word. Then use its Help - Activate Product,
giving *that* number if asked
