mpwxpg readers,
I am trying to install my Office97 software in a new winxp computer.
I have the disk which I bought with my win98 computer (at full price)
and the necessary keys etc. Thus far I have been unable to install it
as a text box in the setup tells me it cannot locate source files it
needs to continue the installation. Anyone have any suggestions on
how to circumvent this roadblock. Any help is appreciated in advance.

Is it a retail or OEM version?

Thanks for the reply. I bought the program from the shop that built
the machine for me and it was installed. I also got the box and manual
for the software. So I don't know if you would call it retail or oem.
Is it a retail or OEM version?

Right click My Computer, select properties. It will have
OEM in the number if it was an oem product, otherwise the
shop used a retail product.
There is no difference in function, but the OEM is tied to
that computer. If it is retail, you can move the OS from
machine to machine as you up-grade systems.

Jim,
It has OEM in the number.

Your OEM version of Office 97 can only be installed on
the computer it originally shipped with.

Thank you for the information. Guess I must buy a new copy.

Your OEM version of Office 97 can only be installed on
the computer it originally shipped with.
