Office 97 docs try to open twice

I bought a new Dell computer with Windows XP already installed. When I installed Office 97, eveything went OK. I put some shortcuts for Office docs on my desktop, now, whenever I double-click one of these, Windows tries to open up 2 copies and gives me the error "doc already open" or "you cannot open up more than one copy of this doc". My double-click speed is not the problem either. Any suggestions / work arounds

When I first started using Office 97 with XP I ran into this problem
with Excel. The following cleared it up and it might be worth a try
for you.

Click Start/Run
Type 'excel.exe /regserver' (without the quotes) and click OK.

Hope it does the job as well as it did for me.

I found this tip on
www.fm.cornell.edu/computer/html/docs/Excel_2000.htm. (Yeah, I know it
says Excel 2000 but who can argue with success.)

Thanks for the tip! I installed Office 97 a couple of days ago and hadn't noticed
this problem until now. Running 'winword.exe /regserver' also corrects the problem
with the error message in Word.
