Office 2007, Word

After working fine for almost 2 years the Left and right clik buttons do not
work in word and I am unable to highlight or manipulate text. This function
works in all other programs.
I thought this was a vista issue as usual but they sent me here.

Any thoughts?

FYI , after reading some other posts I tried staring Word in the safe mode
and it worked fine,
