Office 2003 SP2 hoses FP 2002

Brian Livingston reports in his Windows Secrets newsletter that
installation of Office 2003 SP2 results in FP 2002 not running. He
suggests removing FP 2002, if you have this version, and reinstalling it
after installing SP2.

Livingston also mentions many other failings of various MS updates.

His advice came a bit late as I have already installed Office 2003 SP2
and, as he states, my copy of FP 2002 indeed will not run.

I no longer have the original FP 2002 CD. Is there any hope for
regaining the use of FP 2002? I only use the program to update a web
site once every quarter.

Suggested free or reasonably priced alternatives to FP are welcomed.

Contact MS for a replacement FP2002 CD.

Thanks! That worked. MS is sending a replacement CD Monday. Fortunately
I still had the CD Key, if not the CD.

It will cost me $30, but chalk it up to my own stupidity for losing the
original CD. However, I wouldn't have needed it if MS had designed their
update properly.

Well, I had everything on my computer backed up with Acronis True Image
on an external hard drive. I certainly could have gotten FP 2002 back
using the True Image backup. However, I never would have been able to
install Office 2003 SP2 without losing FP 2002 unless I had the original
FP CD.

One does not expect an update for one program to completely disable
another unrelated program. MS just blew it IMHO. However $30 to get a
replacement CD isn't too bad and there was virtually no hold time and no
hassle on my call to MS. Fortunately I had the CD key, even though I
lost the original CD.

FYI: MS doesn't recommend that you have different versions of MS Office/Office App installed since
they shared common files.

FYI: MS doesn't recommend that you have different versions of MS Office/Office App installed since
they shared common files.

That's fine for the usual Office programs, Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint, Outlook, which come packaged together. But FrontPage and
MapPoint, to name two, are sold separately. I see no point in upgrading
them when I upgrade the Office Suite. I don't even think MapPoint had a
2003 version. I also have Visio 2003, also sold separately, and had
problems with that program and the Office 2003 upgrade. I did have the
CD for Visio 2003 and recovered from the problem. FP2002 co-existed
nicely with Office 2003 until I installed Office 2003 SP2.

I still say MS blew it on the Office 2003 upgrade. There are many
messages at the MS update newsgroup attesting to the problems.
