Office 2003-2007 Interoperability

I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with Office 2007, particularly
with mixed installs? I have a user who has been using 2007 for a few months
now with no problem, and I have the default save to save as Office 2003. But
now (I’m assuming it just started), when someone else tries to open them
using 2003, they get that popup as if they’re opening up a CSV almost. Word
doesn’t know what type of file it is. The Office Compatibility Pack is
installed and up to date. I tried renaming the file from .doc to .docx, and
it opens up fine in Word 2003!! Why bother having the Compatibility Pack
AND/OR the ability to Save As 2003 (in 2007) if neither work?!? So should I
change the default save back to 2007…but then the user has to rely on people
outside of the company to have the pack installed? Unless there’s a bug or
patch that will fix this.

That worked...but why is it just becoming a problem now? And should I have
the 2007 user change his default to Save as 2007 instead of 2003 now?

As explained on the page it is a problem because the compatibility pack
cannot handle the 2007 template format.
