OEM XP home

I am about to reinstall windows I have had problems in the past with
installing OEM windows ( the computer was a gateway PC which had been
upgraded but the gateway CD said that it could not install because the
machine was not a gateway machine :-s).
If I format my hard drive will I encounter any problems installing Dells OEM
WinXP Home edition? (This PC has not been upgraded in anyway )

Thanks

Chris

If the mobo and BIOS are Gateway originals, you can change
everything else and it will install.

If it's the Dell it came with, that is what it is for. =)

Most manufacturer OEM disks are tied to the original computer. Not only
will you likely have trouble installing, it may well be a violation of the
license agreement.

As long as you are installing it on the same machine you shouldn't
have any problem. It's probably a restore disk and will replace
all of the files. You will need to get all of the windows updates
again. Don't forget to turn on the firewall and load your AV
before connecting to the net.

Good luck,

Disregard my previous response to you in this thread, I completely misread
your question.

As others have stated you should have not problems. The problem you had
with the Gateway machine depends on the upgrade you did to that system. If
you meant you upgraded hardware, it's possible the Gateway CD did not
recognize that hardware as a part of the original configuration.

As others have stated, if your system configuration hasn't changed, the
hardware is the same, you should not have an issue with the Dell reinstall.
