I have just recently built a basic PC and installed XP home edition on to a
formatted drive. When XP was installed I was not prompted to set up any user
accounts - is this normal? Now when windows boots it goes straight to Guest
user and asks for a password, I have not entered any password and when I hit
return I get the windows logon message 'the specified domain does not exist
or could not be contacted'.

I have tried the various solutions read in the forums e.g. starting in safe
mode and resetting the accounts (just get the same message), using the repair
facility in setup - all with no success.

Any suggestions anyone? I am at a total loss

Thanks

Have you tried to start the computer in safe mode? And if so, try using the
Administrator log on?

starting in safe mode and resetting the accounts?

did you create a new Administrator or Limited account for yourself?

Hi - tried to start in safe mode - when it reaches the admin logon I hit
return for the password (as one has not been created) and I still receive the
same message?

Any further suggestions would be a help

Thanks

Hi - What I mean is I tried to start in safe mode and enter as the
administrator - but it still does not accept me as an administartor.

I did not create an administrator or limited account for myself.

When the software was installed initially it did not offer the facility to
set up accounts it just initialised straight to a guest user asking for a
password when I tried to logon.

Thanks for your help - any further help would be great

Where did you get XP Home?
Did it come with another computer or did you buy it?
Where did you buy it?

The Safe Mode "Administrator" account usually does NOT have a password.
so leave password blank and press enter. then create new admin privilege or
limited user account.
