When I purchased my xp home edition, shouldn't I have
been informed that it was oem, and what oem meant? I
installed it on my hard drive, then I purchased a bigger
hard drive and can't install the xp again!

Sure you can, the new hard drive only has to have a blank C:
partition.

1. The package should have informed you that it was OEM. And, you can always
ask what that means. Since OEM copies are sold with hardware, and not
usually available on the sales floor, you could have asked the person who
helped you.

2. The fact that you are having trouble installing your XP on a new HDD
does not mean that Microsoft won't let you move XP to another HDD: MS allows
this.

What problems are you having?

I think he says he can't.

The change of H/D may have triggered an OEM XP flag to the affect that "this
is not the original system - so you can't install" - Contact the people from
where you purchased the system. Tell them you have installed a new H/D and
ask them how to get the O/S installed.

If it is a part of the agreement that you are not allowed to make system
changes, it is possible that you may have to buy an XP version to use. Try
all possibilities and complain like hell if they try and force you down this
path.

OEM XP can be reinstalled on a new hard drive as long as it is on the same
original computer. If you get a message that you have exceeded the allowed
installations to install XP, you will be prompted to call the telephone
number listed on the screen. This is a toll free call where available.
Tell the activation center you removed XP from one PC and installed it to
another PC in compliance with the EULA. Other than supplying the AC with the
50 digit key, nothing else should or needs to be conveyed. If you did not
register, there will not be any record of your personal identity
transmitted during the activation. If the optional registration was
completed, then that information will be transmitted during the activation
process.
You will be given a 42 digit key to activate XP on the new PC.

Isn't that what I said. That is what I meant if it was interpreted
otherwise. 8~^)
Oops! After looking again I see what you mean now, should have cut the part:
"Tell the activation center you removed XP from one PC and installed it to
another PC in compliance with the EULA". I was not condoning moving a OEM XP
to another computer. Thanks for the heads up.
The C&P was from my FAQ.
How do I "deactivate", move to another computer or sell a previously
activated XP?

Hehehehe... we all do it sometimes.... the dangers of C&P :) I do it all
the time when programming... Cut some code & paste it elsewhere, then forget
to make the needed changes & bugger up the database :)
