OEM slipstream?

I have both a desktop machine and a Dell laptop. I've made an XP disk with
SP2 slipstreamed for the desktop which works perfectly. For the Dell I have
an OEM XP SP1 disk. Can I use the OEM disk to make an SP2 slipstreamed disk
for the Dell? I gather from other posts that I can't use my Dell OEM product
key with my retail SP2 disk.

Thanks for any assistance.

The XP IT SP2 or the XP CD are not limited to any platform,
whether retail or OEM, Home, Pro, etc.

Your Dell XP OS CD should work as a slipstream source.

You can use the Dell Reinstallation CD to make a slipstreamed
version of Windows XP with SP2. The Dell Product Key will
not work with a retail version of Windows XP.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

You can do it, but not using the standard ways. See

for more info.

Thank you all! It's next Monday's project and if I get into the soup you'll
undoubtedly be hearing from me again. Best wishes.

I think you should be able to; best thing is to try and see. But Dell
use pretty standard hardware, so you should not find you are replacing
customised modules of the Dell CD (as you might very easily if it were a
Compaq for example). You are correct that the setup program on the
retail disk will not accept an OEM product key. But make sure you do
not lose the Dell CD or the CD where you have the complete SP2 file used
in the slipstreaming
