oem key not valid with disc?

I have 2 new machines both from the same brand. ONe shipped with XP home and
the other with Vista home Premium. Neither computer has been on the net or
acitvated yet.
I did like to switch OS's from on to the other(xp machine is slightly
higher specs and it's for me, my wife wants the other computer but not Vista).
I got XP on the vista machine now using the install disc and the key
from the machine.
But when I put the try to put VIsta disc in the XP machine and use the
VISTA OEM key I get could not validate your key..please check your typing.
I have not tried put Vista back on the Vista machine yet(don't really
want to).
By the way the only the disc that came with my vista pc was the UPgrade
your windows vista experience disc. It does contain all the 32bit versions of
Vista. I tried for a joke putting on a Via c3 800 mhz computer..installed
without the keY(30day) like a charm..slow as hell but in theory it works.

any help is appreciated..my only guess it that some how the OEM key off the
side up my pc will not work on my other pc?

The OEM license that shipped with your 2 PC's are NOT transferable to
another PC, it is against the EULA to swap the OS's between PC's like you
are trying to do.

Fair enough, I think I buy another pc..one with media center..it come with a
vista upgrade via mail. and use the upgrade on my xp machine then.
can never have too many computers..plus some retailers are dumping
Pre-vista machines cheap.
