got a viio in 02 from circuit city didn't get a hardcopy
of windows xp what can i do to get my copy.I want do a clean instal need a
copy

Not Microsoft.
Contact Sony, but it may be to late.
Ebay may be a more practical option.

Check your manual.
Some computers have a hidden partition for such a purpose.

If you originally purchased the system and did not receive a copy of
Windows, your recovery may be in a protected portion of the HD (not sure if
Sony ever did this or not). Check your manual for instructions on how to
perform a recovery. If that is the case, though, your only options are to
do a "destructive" recovery (meaning you lose everything on your HD).

If that's not the case, and if you happen to have the receipt from your
purchase, you may be able to convince Sony to give you another copy of the
Recovery CD.
