OE6, Internet Explorer6 & desktop - HELP Please!

I run Windows XP with IE6 & OE6 - I downloaded all the critical updates on
the 12th and my computer has been wacky ever since! I am receiving emails in
OE6 - but when I open the plain text ones, they are totally blank. I cannot
highlight - forward...NOTHING brings them up. I have rechecked all my
settings, tried several "fix it" tools and a couple other suggestions found
online---to no avail. NOW my IE is constantly crashing and shutting down
every few minutes as I search for help.......and as if all of that were not
enough? Some of my desktop icons are corrupt and won't work and I have a 4
inch blue line running up and down my screen with "folder tasks" etc. listed
on it and I cannot get it to go away.

I am thoroughly frustrated and frazzled and praying that someone here will
be able to helo me with some/any of this! ? Thanks so much in advance.
