OE style short contact list?

When I used to use Outlook Express, the bottom half of my navigation
pane showed a short form of my contacts list. I think it was just their
email address or Display Name. When I double-clicked on one of these
names, OE opened a new message to that person. Can I set Outlook to
display this, rather than the Mail/Contacts/Calendar buttons at the
bottom of the navigation pane?
