I went to XP new users, searched for DBX and DB files as one directed
start-seaarch-file & folders-all or part of the file name; search was zero.

Was using OE e-mail 3/4 of the day normally. Out of nowhere all the folders
were gone, "show all messages" etc. were gone. I clicked local folders, empty
'cept for the normal inbox, sent, drafts, delete, etc. All info filed were
gone.

I know new ones came in I heard the notification. My address book is ok, my
sent file is apparent. Some recent messages showed up as spam. Using
another's directions I disabled web site filter on my virus protection (it
had been on) but never caused a problem. I did receive an alert from
PC-cillin when I hit one web page and I closed it immediately when allerted.
But even after that the OEX continued to work properly.

These folders contained my bills and paid bills folders to name a few
important and necessary ones.

I have notified Call Wave to cancel my incoming calls service, I deleted it
as a program in add/remove programs (altho th icon still appears but it
probably takes a bit of time for that to go thru. Even so, OEX still remained
working.

I worked with ISP for 3 hrs with two different helpers. I checked my
anti-virus for quarantined files and there were none. I don't know anything
else to do at this point.

Oh Geeze Louise! Got a DSL installation this afternoon arranged, but was
told OEX would not hinder that process.

Waiting for Superman to come and save the day!

You probably still own the data. You are simply set to use a new set of *.DBX
files. (Called 'using a new Identity'. Take a look at the File menu in OE and
you will see a "Manage Identities" item). You can locate the folder used for
storing this Identity at OE,. tools menu, Options, Maintenance tab, "Store
Folder" button. (Mine looks like this: C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{985E6AEA-76C0-4E20-974F-0FBD36506FFA}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express) The long number folder is the identity.

If you did not find ANY '*.dbx' files, you simply failed to look for them
correctly. You would not be getting mail if none existed.

The "Import" feature on OE's File menu might let you recover the data.

Sorry I'm so dimwitted!

Mark I found them with your instr. went to Tools, Options, Maintainance,
Store Folders, I copied the ID address, opened Control Panel, pasted the ID
into the aaddress bar, clicked Go and they were there. BUT: I tried
everything to put them into new folders in OEX without success. When I tried
to open the dbx folders I got: Firefox asking me what I wanted to do. Open or
save to disk. I marked open, nothing happened except the same message
returned. I read in the Help I could drag them; so I made a new folder in OEX
and tried to drag it into it. When I tried to open it within the new folder,
Firefox again asked me what I wanted to do. I did "search", move folder (into
the newly created one)
nothing. Sometimes a new message form appeared with an icon in the
attachment field. Couldn't open it either without Firefox asking me what to
do with it. I really quite good at following directions the methods worked
but when moved I couldn't open them, not even on the OE page where the
folders are
More than frustrated and at a loss. I hope you can give me some more help
and time; or suggest another route or forum even. A good 8 hrs. I've tried.
