Well, I got to thinking I wanted to install the SP2 patch on a clean system
and decided to do a full recovery of my Presario. Now everything is back
into working order and OE is working fine.
Thanks everyone for your help and happy surfing!
Yes I have and here they are. Everyone is doin there best. This must be a
tough nut to crack. I have used OE for years, been able to embed huge wav
files. Now it's suddenly limiting me to under 200kbs. Been searching MS
knowlege base and 3 newsgroups as well as Googling.
Here are the other's suggetions of which I have tried them all.

Subject: background sound
I thought I could embed larger files 100 to 2000kbs into OE6, but evidently
not. How can I tell OE to allow me to embed files that are at least 3 to 5
megabytes?
Each time I try to embed the larger files, I get the "one or more files
cannot..."
(see attachment of screen shot)
Thanks

Thanks Bruce, I just joined there and posted my question. I also tried like
hell to find the answer in Microsoft's Support for OE. Can't find anything
at Google either. There must be something a person can do to increase the
size of the sound embedded into OE. I'm open to any links or suggestions
from anyone who reads this.
I don't know of a certain limit, but 150KB shouldn't be a problem. You
might try the Stationery newsgroup.
The stationery groups have moved to a Microsoft hosted private news
server.
The private server can be accessed using the following settings in a
new
news account:
Server: privatenews.microsoft.com
Account Name: privatenews\stationery
Password: stationery

Are they wav or midi files? AFAIK, those are the only ones you can
imbed and 3 to 5 MB sounds pretty large for those types of files.
Hi RRR, no that isn't necessary. This is during the process of creating an
email with embedded sound. It's not during the uploading of the email.
File attachments for most pop3 email servers is about 10mbs. That's plenty
for me. Thanks for the suggestions.
Leeray,
Have you check with your ISP/Mail service and see if they have a policy on
the size of a single message, or files that are attached to them. Some
services have put limits on the size of messages sent through their service
to stop file sharing of media files.

I created a new Identity but still cannot embed large files into a new
message.
Just some thoughts. While these may not sound like the solution, it's
surprising what they can achieve.
In IE: Tools>Internet Options. Delete the TIFs and Offline Content. In
OE: Compact all your folders.
Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders
are open. Then: File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in
the Status Bar).
File>Folder>Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the
compacting is completed.
Run a Defrag and try. If still no joy, it is possible that you have a
damaged identity in OE. Create a new one. File>Identities>Add New
Identity and test it. If that works you can import your messages from
the old ID and delete it.

In Tools>Options>Send>HTML Settings. Is Send Pictures With Messages
checked? It won't send the sound if it isn't.

I just tested with a wav file that was 282KB. No problem. The only
other thing I can suggest trying is to Repair/Reinstall IE/OE.
How to Reinstall or Repair IE6 and OE6:

Although written for WinXP, it works for all Windows operating
systems 98 or newer.
If you are using WinXP/SP2 you will have to remove SP2 first.

Hi Bruce,
I has nothing to do with sending the email. And yes, that box is checked. I
get the message whether I try to save the email to my Draft folder or send
it. Point is, it will play when I embed it but it does not embed into the
email. Someone said something about Cid nr?

Have you posted to an OE6-specific newsgroup about the issue?
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
The OE stationery groups have migrated to a microsoft hosted private news
server some months ago.
The private server can be accessed using the following settings in a new
news account:
Server: privatenews.microsoft.com
Account Name: privatenews\stationery
Password: stationery
The only reason it's on a private server is that Microsoft does not allow
posting of messages larger than 100 KB to pubic newsgroups. Since many
stationeries are often much larger, since they include multiple images and
sound files, the use of a private newsgroups was set up to allow them to
continue with their creations. Broadband is certainly an asset since many
of the postings now exceed 400-500 KB routinely making them difficult for
telco users to download.
