Odd problem with Seagate 7200 120GB drive

J

John Smith

Hi,

I put a Seagate 120GB drive in my PC a few weeks ago and it was super
silent. Two days ago a friend emailed me a Word doc as an attachment - it
passed virus checking - but when I opened it up my PC froze. I had to do a
reboot. Since then I am very aware of hearing read/writes on the drives
which I was oblivious to before. I have done a defrag and run a CHKDSK a
couple of times but that has not fixed it nor is the drive full as it has
52% free capacity.

Any thoughts on why it has suddenly decided to get a touch louder?

Thanks,

John.

try running a spyware program. Spybot or Spy Sweeper. You
can download Spy Sweeper for free - you just don't get
upgrades, but it might catch the problem for now.
