Installing a Seagate 300 GB hard drive

Yesterday, I replace my Maxtor ATA 120GB Slave drive with a new Seagate
300GB ATA drive. Primary Slave also. For some reason my XP Home SP2 wanted
me to insert the Seagate disk. I did and it formatted to NTFS just fine. I
then loaded my music collection on it no problem.
Today, I turned on the same computer....BTW Intel D845EBG2 P4 1.8ghz. 512K
ram.
It came up with a BIOS warning "Pri Slave Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD,
Backup and Replace
Press<F4> to Resume.
I ran the software again and it said the drive was bad. So, I then put BACK
my old 120GB Maxtor and went to boot up. It now says my Pri Master is BAD
with the same message....
What did the Seagate software do to my bios? I checked it and nothing looks
any different. However, it does show something about RAID on the boot up
that is so fast I can't get to it....
HELP!!
I do have a pic of the screenshot and will post it after this.
Thanks

Interesting. Have you tried the the Maxtor diagnostics software on your
first hdd? If the Maxtor software says it's OK I would go to the degree of
resetting the bios and check it again.
