Odd message when opening downloads

I sometimes download a program and when I click on the icon to install it I get a message that says the program is not a valid Win32 application. What does that mean and how do I get around it?

Hi,

It means the download is corrupt. Delete it and retry is all you can do.

Some download sites do not allow the use of download accelerator programs.
The resulting downloads become corrupt.

True, It could also mean exactly what it says - that the program is
not a valid win32 application that XP will recognize. If it's an
older program this is a real possibility.
