Odd lines appearing in Word documents that weren't there before

Having used Word for years, (currently Word 2003 at work), my documents in
Word have started coming up with 4 L-shaped lines (one in each corner). They
seem to mark the margin edges. There certainly have never been there before,
and they are very annoying. I must have changed a setting somewhere but
despite searching, cannot fix the problem!

Do you know any way to make them go away?

If you need to be able to type in Chinese-Japanese-Korean, you will
have the corner marks and there's nothing you can do about it.

We get this complaint constantly -- could you explain what's so
terrible about the corner marks? They're unobtrusive and they give you
some information (though less information than if you have text
boundaries showing).
