Odd Filename Order in Filename Dialogs

G

Gene Wirchenko

Hello:

I have a problem on my XP system where with some filename
dialogs, I get the files and directories in weird order. I think that
the order I am getting is from most- to least-recently-accessed though
I am not sure if it is always that.

The dialogs that do this do not have an option for setting the
order.

I do not know how this got started, but I would like to correct
it. How?

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchenko

Are you sure that dialog is not a custom dialog? i.e.: not a standard
open/save dialog but made to look like a standard dialog. e.g.: Qt based
programs or Java programs. Which looks very similar but **much** less
functionality.

No, I have not tracked that. What I do know is that the
behaviour changed at one point. I have no idea what I did to cause
that or even if I did anything to cause it.

Try this: next time you're in one of those dialogs, look for the "View
Menu" button (usually near the top right [of the dialog!], mostly white
and looks like a tiny picture of a list of icons with a blue titlebar).
Drop down the drop-down arrow, and glance at what is currently selected,
and select "Details". This will probably give you a set of column
headings, as in an explorer view, which you can click as usual to select
by that (name, save date, file type, and a second click to reverse the
order). Then use the View button again to return it to what it was. I
_think_ this will save the order.

I had not thought of this. I have tried it, but I have not
checked whether the choice stuck. The choice might differ by
directory, or maybe it does not stick.

I tried this with downloading a file in Firefox. Unfortunately,
the order did not stick.
