Odd behavior switching between subfolders

I use Outlook 2003 on a desktop and laptop. On my laptop when I click
"Contacts" in the navigation pane the main window (where the actual contacts
are) becomes active and I can scroll through them with the arrow keys on the
keyboard. On my desktop, doing the same thing, I can't. I have to CTRL+TAB
to the main window before I can scroll through. Same with TASKS, CALENDAR,
etc.

Any idea what might cause this? Both computers are fully updated and both
episodes of Office 2003 were installed the same time and both over Office
2000.

Thanks,
Lenox

Just discovered that by right clicking the navigation pane and choosing "Open
in an new window" Outlook behaves correctly. Of course, it isn't always
logical to open a new window so the problem persists.
