I’m running XP-Pro, have 1 GB of RAM and 52 GB of free hard drive space. I
have been using PhotoShop Elements 3.0 and left several windows open
overnight that I was editing photos in.
During that overnight, Microsoft downloaded a patch and restarted my pc. I
can no longer launch Photoshop Elements. Instead I get the upper quarter of
my screen filled with what appears to be the ‘Organizer’ window and also the
right hand side and bottom (looking something like a backwards L) filled in,
along with the word ‘searching’ and the familiar hourglass. And it searches,
and searches and nothing happens. When I go to the Windows Task Manager, I
get ‘Organizer-Photoshop Elements 3.0--Not responding’.
I went to the Program files and was able to come up with the following
messages (all of which just serve to confuse me) that say:
“There was a problem opening the catalog named ‘My Catalog’
Another User or application may have the catalog open, or one or more files
may be missing, out of date, or damaged.
“[Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver) General error Unable to open
registry key ‘Temporary (Volatile) Jet DSN for process 0X544 Thread Ox59c
DBC19b9b04 Jet.â€
Attempt to compact and recover this catalog, then open again?â€
I clicked on the YES button and got,
“OBDC Microsoft Access Drive Login Failed, Disk or Network Error.â€
I then got:
“A problem was encountered during catalog recovery. Your catalog may be OK
but if you experience problems with it that can’t be resolved through the
Recover catalog option or restarting your system you may need to restore this
catalog from a backup.â€
Needless to say, I’m lost. My fear is that all of the cross references that
I’ve done in the ‘Organizer’ section of Elements will be lost and I’ll need
to redo some 15,000 cross references. How can I get back to normal? I’ve
also tried ‘System restore’ to no avail.
